Possible uses
- add an acoustic effect to a controlled RC demonstration
- experiment with airflow and sonic cavities
Printing recommendations
- As a first test, PLA is a simple option; switch to PETG, ASA, or another material only if the use requires temperature resistance, outdoor use, or higher toughness.
- A layer height of 0.20 mm is usually a good starting point; reduce the layer height if you want to prioritize surface detail.
- Find a stable face to support the piece and check for overhangs, bridges, and surfaces requiring supports in the slicer.
- Print a single unit or a fit test first when there are tolerances, joints, or compatibility with a real object.
What to check
Do not add pyrotechnics or charges; avoid throwing towards people, animals, or property and respect flight field regulations. As a starting point, the sheet indicates FDM with PLA, PETG; these details must be confirmed in the slicer.

Whistling bombs made for dropping from RC planes or drones (in a safe open area free of people and property)
These are printed in flexible TPU and are designed to be as safe and as harmless as possible while still being effective.
Drop them from 200 feet or higher to allow them to reach terminal velocity and produce sound.
The body has a hollow tube which needs to be filled with weights to have the correct balance and penetration through the air.
I use 3, 3/8 ball bearings for the weight but you can use whatever you have, as long as it makes it nose heavy.
push the ball bearings as far up to the nose as possible and glue in place
you can use “red snap crackers” available at fireworks stores for more effect, glue them to the nose or inside the tail.
These can be re-used over and over.
print in a bright color so you can find them.
remove all strings and burs from whistle holes and chamber.
