Model information
Description
Purpose
This model is a folding propeller designed for use in RC planes, such as the Nucking Futs printable pylon racer.
Practical Uses
The designer used upscaled versions of the Nucking Futs pylon racer with these propellers. When printed with PLA or PETG, the designer reported the propeller can withstand several hundred Watts of input power. The designer suggests PA-CF as a potential material.

Printing and Assembly Guidance
To achieve maximum strength, the designer recommends printing with 10 perimeters so that layer lines are oriented along the perimeters, specifically at the blade root. The leading edge of the blade should face the print bed. The designer advises testing the propeller with more power than will be used in final operation and warns not to stand beside or in front of the propeller during initial testing due to the risk of blade separation.

<p>This is a folding propeller I created years ago. I flew this propeller myself on upscaled (130%) versions of the Nucking Futs printable pylon racer.<br>Link to Airplane: <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3358880 ">https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3358880 </a><br>Please give credit to the designer of this plane, it's absolutely amazing and it flies very well. <br><br>There is many different Hub and Propeller sizes.<br>When printed with PLA or PETG it withstands several hundred Watts of input power no problem. Best Material would probably be PA-CF.</p><p><strong>Edit 2025-06-13: </strong>There have been some questions on how to print. To achieve maximum strength, print with 10 perimeters. Like this, the layer lines are oriented along the perimeters which increases strength, especially at the blades root. Print with the leading edge of the blade facing the print bed.</p><p><strong>Max. Power Test:</strong> Below is the video of a max. Power test I did with the 8.5inch blades printed in PLA. The point of failure was at roughly 1000 Watts of input power. So if printed correctly, 300 Watts (ca. 30A @ 3S, 20A @ 4S) should be safe and durable.</p><p><strong>Caution: Do absolutely NOT stand beside or in front of the Propeller when you first test it.</strong> I highly recommend testing it with more power than you will finally need. It can cause serious harm when the blades separate! </p><figure class="media"><oembed url="https://youtu.be/5OvdSDFOB-g"></oembed></figure><p> </p><p> </p>
