Published description
Purpose: These components are designed to replace the plastic wing struts on the FMS PA-18 1300mm Super Cub with carbon fibre rods. The author notes the design is not perfect, as the front strut is swept forwards slightly, causing a small bend in the strut.
Practical Uses: Replacing weak plastic struts with carbon fibre to improve the model's structure.
Included Parts:
- Fuselage 4mm.stl
- Wing 4mm.stl
- Fuselage 3mm.stl
- Wing 3mm.stl
Printing/Assembly Guidance:
Printing: Use a material with good layer adhesion such as Nylon (the author used Taulman PCTPE), ABS, or ASA. Do not use PLA. Print with supports and good tolerances.
Assembly:
1. Cut carbon fibre rods (4mm or 3mm, at least 350mm each) to an approximate length.
2. Test-fit the rods into the fuselage pieces.
3. Glue struts into the fuselage piece using CA (super/krazy glue). Warning: CA bonds almost instantly and permanently.
4. Install the fuselage piece and trim the struts to the correct length. Use the wing pieces to verify the length, which is approximately 330-345mm.
5. Glue the wing pieces, ensuring correct orientation. Note that CA will bond instantly.
