Model information
Description
A part that fits the Robak 2.2 3D printed RC car. This component provides a body shell and protects the suspension/shocks from damage during rollovers. The author notes that the parts are simple but effective.
Assembly requirements:
- A plastic bottle
- An aluminium bar (3x12x295 mm or 1/8" x ¼" x 12") or a 3D printed/cut alternative
- Two M3 heat set inserts
The author suggests that you can spray paint the bottle on the inside for color.
Printing instructions and material notes:
- The author recommends printing these parts weaker than the shock tower so that the protector breaks instead of the tower.
- The author reports using PLA for the mount in a photo, but suggests PETG for weather resistance and lower impact resistance.
- The author reports that PETG broke cleanly during a crash, which they considered a success.
- The author suggests TPU might also be used.
- The author reports that printing the entire assembly (both mounts and the rail) as a single piece of TPU 68D resulted in a much more durable part.

<p>This is a part that fits the Robak 2.2 3d printed rc car: <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="editor-link" href="https://www.printables.com/model/119715-robak-2-rc-car">https://www.printables.com/model/119715-robak-2-rc-car</a></p><p>---</p><p>I drove Robak 2.2 on concrete. It hit a pothole and became inverted. The car slid on the top, damaging the shocks, a purchased RC part.</p><p>I knew it needed a top cover. I could not find one I liked. RC companies can make anything they want, but all they do is make the same 3 trucks?!</p><p>I tried making my own but it was difficult to draw because I'm not an industrial designer. I got a drink and realised the bottle was the right shape.</p><p>The parts are simple but effective.</p><p>You will also need a plastic bottle and an aluminium bar (or 3d print your own, or cut one from wood or UHMW or something). 3x12x295 mm or 1/8" x ¼" x 12" and cut a bit off the end. Also two M3 heat set inserts. (I know I should have used captive square nuts like the rest of the project, but I am fed up with captive square nuts). STEP is provided if you want to re-cut it for square nuts.</p><p>My car build is named “Stickers” hence the filenames. It now has more stickers than shown in the photograph.</p><p>---</p><p>You can spray paint the bottle on the inside for color.</p><p>---</p><p>Updates</p><ul><li><p><strong>2025-Aug-11</strong> Print these parts weaker than the shock tower.
